Process Automation Within An Eco System

Mark Thompson • January 18, 2023

Power Automate is a powerful tool for automating tasks and streamlining workflow, but it may not have all the features and capabilities that some users need for their specific automation tasks.

Power Automate Limitations

One limitation of Power Automate is that it is primarily focused on automating tasks within the Microsoft ecosystem, such as tasks related to Office 365 and Dynamics 365. While it can integrate with other systems and platforms, the integration may not be as seamless or robust as it is within the Microsoft ecosystem.

Another limitation is that Power Automate has limits on the number of runs and executions per month based on the pricing plan. This means that for some users with high volume automation needs, Power Automate may not be the best solution.

Additionally, Power Automate does not offer the same level of customization and flexibility as some other automation tools. While it does have a wide range of pre-built connectors and actions, users may not be able to create custom connectors or actions to fit their specific automation needs.

How Power Automate Streamlines Workflow

Despite these limitations, Power Automate is still a valuable tool for automating tasks and streamlining workflow, particularly for users within the Microsoft ecosystem. However, it's important for users to carefully evaluate their automation needs and consider whether Power Automate is the best solution for their specific use case.

How Power Automate Functions In A Business Ecosystem

First, when a tool is primarily focused on automating tasks within a specific ecosystem, it may not be able to integrate as seamlessly with other systems and platforms. This can make it difficult or impossible to automate tasks that involve data or processes outside of the ecosystem, which can limit the overall effectiveness of the automation.

Second, ecosystem limitations can also limit the availability of pre-built connectors and actions. For example, Power Automate has a wide range of pre-built connectors and actions for automating tasks within the Microsoft ecosystem, but it may not have the same level of support for other systems and platforms. This can make it more difficult and time-consuming to set up automation for tasks that involve non-Microsoft systems.

Third, ecosystem limitations may also limit the ability to access certain types of data. For example, if a tool is limited to a specific ecosystem, it may not be able to access data that is stored on other platforms, which can hinder automation.

Fourth, when a tool is limited to a specific ecosystem, it may not have the same level of scalability and performance as a tool that can integrate with multiple systems and platforms. This can be a problem for users who have high-volume automation needs.

In conclusion, ecosystem limitations can hinder automation by making it difficult or impossible to integrate with other systems and platforms, limiting the availability of pre-built connectors and actions, limiting the ability to access certain types of data, and limiting the scalability and performance of the automation tool.

Power Automate + FlowWright Customer Example

One of our customer’s that manages the medical billing between the payer and payee ran into some of these limitations with Microsoft power automate. They still used Microsoft power automate to perform things within the eco system of Microsoft such as Sharepoint and Office 365, but used FlowWright for processing large numbers of EDI to XML transactions using processes and business rules.
